sunday creativity
i feel quite chuffed as i have actually managed to complete a crafty item this weekend. Hoorah!
behold: cup cosy!
as well as knitting this lovely cosy, i made progress on a few bags, and finished another started a week ago.
the fried breakfast bag, mentioned previously. at the time i started knitting i didn’t have any beige or yellow yarn for the egg and bacon, so i reinterpreted the pattern and created green eggs and ham (as in the Dr Seuss book). the orange-bobble-triangle is intended to represent baked beans.
a rainbow pouch. the IT guru tells me it is more of an arch, but it is intended to be a rainbow (just a more stylised version…)
i bought this fabric about a month ago, and finally decided today on a suitable shape. the plan is to have bias tape around the handles – either lime or olive green (to match the flowers or leaves).
this is…
… the contents of my handbag
red cellini wallet
keys – powder puff girl found at a outdoor concert. marimeko flower given to me by a friend
ventolin puffer – for asthma
vaseline lip balm
the small object ‘in a pinch and need a fix’ business cards (free to download from her website)
neroli jasmine eau de toilette from the body shop
2008 diary
mia:
tissues – i feel like i suffer from all-year-round hay fever.
i must add that i don’t normally carry a bag this small – i always seem to carry too much stuff. but i still can’t manage to leave home without a whole bag of stuff…
… just in case
snail mail
it’s been a snail mail bonanza for me.
yesterday:
firstly, a late easter surprise
Two of our lovely and thoughtful friends (old flatmates) sent us a late easter gift. unfortunately the bilby didn’t appreciate the warmth of our letterbox (its got up to about 30 degrees yesterday). but a short wait in the fridge and he/she was ready for consumption. likewise with lindt (luckily though the foil helped contain them).
secondly:
a bangle from Sam
today:
an ebay purchase
it’s a lot thinner than i had anticipated.
its designed for a knitting machine, so thin is good. i’ll string up the instrument of torture tomorrow, have a play around and give you an update.
if anyone has suggestions for the use of extra fine cotton machine knitting yarn i would love to hear them.
cup cosies
Knitting daily (the advertising email from Interweave which can have some useful stuff) has provided a free pattern for 30days:
impractical: maybe
but cute: yes indeed!
and slightly pointless: yes again!!
although they will probably help keep your tea/coffee warmer for longer while you forget to drink it. AND if you have a plain looking mub, then a cosy will make it look better.
i will make a cosy for the first 2 people to leave a comment. the excitement of semi-pointless knitted items! i once knitted a fried breakfast bag, which now lives in the bottom of my cupboard (i don’t think it is feltable, unfortunately as that would make it tremendously more useful). link to pattern doesn’t seem to work anymore. i’ll scan my copy in soon as i am sure you are all keen to get knitting green eggs and ham!
weekend craftiness
a new design idea i tried out over the weekend:
not that you can really see it, but this pouch has a curved top, which became a bit troublesome when trying to sew in the zip. I’m going to make another with a less chunky zip and hope that the top sits better.
i have developed a love for hand-stitched detail. i try and fit in a bit of handstitched detail in each piece that i make. i like the wonkiness, the uneveness of hand stitching.
i am soon going to try my hand at some embroidery – i feel rather excited having found this courtesy of … i can’t quite remember now (nor can i find) … but i am sure it was either Meet me at Mikes or Floresita
this little pouch will eventually make it into my etsy shop. i have plans to re-photograph my stock (with the help of a wonderful friend) and re-do my shop. no rush though…
this is … my inspiration collection
my cork-board is still in sydney, so the wall and some blue-tack are holding up the pretty posters/post cards/stuff that i like to look at:
almost all of my posters are courtesy of the wonderful Frankie magazine.
my favorite postcard of the moment is fluffy red and green dolls up the top, given to me by a friend.
something bad. something good.
a flat tyre on the way to work (bad)
an 1.5 hr walk home (ok)
the discovery of Animal-shaped Pasta (and a supermarket that stocks the tea i like) (excellent!)

the subsequent discovery of bike # 4 (also excellent)
i am intending to give this bike to a friend of a friend
ideally i would like to do it up and re-sell it – new coloured brake cables, a cute basket, a new sadle and maybe new grips – the possibilities…!
she is a malvern star named “Wisp” – it was worth picking up this bike for the name alone
why don’t malvern star make bikes like this anymore?
