softie making
having realised that there is still time to make something for the current cause at Mikes, i made a start on a softie this arvo.

update
the knitting retreat was wonderful.
so good in fact that the 2 wonderful ladies who organised the weekend, have booked the same place for next year. my only disappointment is that the next retreat isn’t sooner!
i made progress on a pair of socks, and a beige alapca jumper. however last night i ripped back the jumper to the ribbing as i decided i wanted to make it longer, and some of the waist shaping was a bit dodgy. as usual photos will follow soonish. it would help if i actually got out my camera.
new-ish purchases
with the changing of the seasons i have felt the need to acquire a few extra pieces for my wardrobe:
2 stipey shirts in a mix of blues/greys/touch of gold
a saba silk skirt (for $4!)
a pretty yellow floral shirt (an early spring purchase)
photos will come soon.
snail mail
two lovely surprises in the mail today.
ok one was expected, and the other wasn’t expected right now:
so, i got a package from my mum including a few knitting needles and a recent copy of “Good Living” from SMH (sydney morning herald). it’s kind of useless to read as all the restaurants reviewed are in sydney, but there are a few good recipes and other food related stories.
second package was the summer issue of interweave knits, which i have just subscribed to. for non-knitters interweave is (one of) THE knitting magazines, alongside Vogue knitting. those 2 magazines always have great designs. only problem is they are both american, so all the advertising (yarn shops etc) is rather useless to me. anyhow, great knitting patterns, and at the rate i knit anything i chose from the magazine will be ready for summer anyway.
i’m heading off tonight to one of the 3 knitting groups i am part of.
to a non-knitter this may sound a bit excessive, but let me assure you it is just right. it works out that every saturday afternoon and every monday night i can attend a knitting group. which compensates for my lack of a social life at the moment.
next knitting project?
i now want a red cabled poncho, as seen here: GadeModeArhus
i don’t like the way it drapes down longer at the back, but i do like the wide roll neck. i am having a turtleneck obsession moment.
an overdue thank you
Hollie from the lovely blog Hokey did a giveaway recently, and I was the very excited winner of a groovy Hokey wallet.
One of my favorites things about mail is packaging:
Ribbon, a card and cute giraffe tape!
It came with me to melbourne, and it’s been a great wallet – happily holds all that i need. not too big. not too small. like baby bear’s porridge “it’s just right”.
2 good reasons…
… to not like going to the dentist:
1) it always costs a lot more than you expect (especially when they charge you for major dental – which i thought was minor – and was then not covered by health insurance)
2) when they make you feel stupid because you don’t use dental floss everyday
anyway, i’m sure you don’t really want to know that much about my teeth!
