i feel quite chuffed as i have actually managed to complete a crafty item this weekend. Hoorah!

behold: cup cosy! :)

as well as knitting this lovely cosy, i made progress on a few bags, and finished another started a week ago.

the fried breakfast bag, mentioned previously. at the time i started knitting i didn’t have any beige or yellow yarn for the egg and bacon, so i reinterpreted the pattern and created green eggs and ham (as in the Dr Seuss book). the orange-bobble-triangle is intended to represent baked beans.

a rainbow pouch. the IT guru tells me it is more of an arch, but it is intended to be a rainbow (just a more stylised version…)

i bought this fabric about a month ago, and finally decided today on a suitable shape. the plan is to have bias tape around the handles – either lime or olive green (to match the flowers or leaves).

I had the opportunity to visit the Fremantle Arts Centre and have a look at an interesting textiles exhibition. One thing that really grabbed me was a basket constructed out of recycled clothing and wicker (no photo, sorry). i did resist the urge not to touch on this occasion, but i do find it really hard not to touch things, especially when i want to know how it was constructed. i think as a crafty person it is a natural instinct to touch and feel.

i did sneak a photo of this display:

the wall flowers were part of a large free-standing display (that i can’t really remember), but i really liked the way the fabric was spread across the wall. i find colour and colour combinations inspiring. like looking at skeins of hand-dyed yarn. or being in a yarn shop and gazing at all the colours sorted into piles.

when i have a better-paying job i am planning to buy myself some better shelving for my craft room to make it more functional. i have discovered that it is hard to be creative and inspired if you can’t find anything or actually access the sewing machine…. and seeing all the photos of inspiration boards reminds me that i should get a cork board to display my inspiration.
